Beware The Sheriff In The Window
Hello my darling Truebies, have you missed me?
Finally, we are into Season 6 of "True Blood". I feel like I just woke from a long zombie sleep. I did! Thank Goddrick, I have my favorite fangers to occupy my TV until "Walking Dead" starts again in October.
Initially, I was skeptical about how good this season would be so I purposefully waited to blog until I was sure I could do so without turning traitor. Two episodes in, I am sure we are safe from disappointment. You had me at RUTGER HAUER.
Most people are unaware of Rutger's true importance to Vampire fiction. My beloved Anne Rice patterned the character of Lestat after him for her books. That fact weighs highly in merit with me because I consider Ms. Rice to be a visionary and pioneer in the genre. Everyone else just takes from her.
Of course, Rutger has done Buffy and the remake of Salem's Lot for TV. But, we'll take him as a fairy for now.
It is interesting how Salem's Lot was brought to my mind. I enjoyed the tv remake in 2004, But, I prefer the original. One of my favorite scenes in that original is when the little boy has turned into a vampire and is floating outside the window of his friend begging him to open it so he can come in a bite him. We saw a similar scene last week,in True Blood, when Eric Northman floats outside the window of the daughter of the anti vampire governor. The last scene of that episode show her glamoured and willing to open that window. Eric- 1 Governor-0.
I am enjoying the season so far. I'm still not all together sold on Bill's latest transformation. I adore The Fairy Babies and it is good to see Pam and Lafayette back to their true sassy personalities.

The Walking Dead (S3E3) Zombie Maternity Ward
I'll admit, I took last week off from the blog because I was a bit down from the slow speed of episode 2. Every series has their fill in/build up episodes. I am absolutely positive they were just giving our emotions and intellect a break to prepare us for the gut wrenching episode that unfolded last night.
What was the shortest, disjointed gestation in TV history came down to a moment in a boiler room with a crude Cesarean for Lori. Poor Carl, it's bad enough to see your mom in labor but to have to put her down afterward to prevent "the turn" was a man up event like no other. I would say he would be scared for life, but we're talking life after life here and he has already been deflowered of his senses.
It was a joyous day, Herschel was up and about minus a leg, and a wretched day, Carol is missing, and T-DOG IS EATEN... No T-Dog, No! ( Twitter momentarily blew up.) Let's balance that up with a dash of Merle sass and we had an awesome episode

The Walking Dead (S3E1) - In The Jail House Now
Season 3 of Walking Dead takes us 8 months from where we left off last season. Winter has come and gone, food is running scarce...Carl has his own firearm. The group is weary but hanging on.
The fallout from Shane's death and Lori's pregnancy is apparent. The chill and tension within the Grimes family is thick. Rick is more focused on leadership than ever before, especially after the siege at the prison. He is ambivalent to Lori and less fatherly to Carl.
The girls of the group have toughened up and learned the art of defense and weaponry. But, not so for Andrea, who is still with Michonne in a separate location battling a mystery illness that has her beholden to Michonne for care. They too are moving locations with Michonne's armless zombies on leashes.
The most intense shocking part of the evening comes in the last 5 minutes as a group of Camp Rick moves about the prison to secure it. In the maze of hallways, walker inmates chase the group and Hershel gets bit in the ankle. Rick quickly takes a hatchet and crudely amputates his leg at the knee to try and keep the virus from spreading. As he finishes, the group looks up to discover they are being watched by a group of uninflected inmates who are shocked at the carnage they just witnessed. And THAT is the fastest passing hour of TV history.
Will Hershel survive to assist Lori in the birth of a baby that may already be dead inside of her and ready to chew its way out? Who are the uninflected prisoners and how did they survive this long? WHERE IS MERL???

10 More Days Until We Stagger On
Thankfully, Season Three of The Walking Dead begins in 10 days. I am quite confident that it will end my disenchantment with TV in general. So many of the shows that I have enjoyed are enduring slumps either in casting or writing right now and I need spike through the eyeball into the zombie brain.

Season 5 Finale: True Blood "Save Yourself"
I am very happy to say that, FINALLY, the show ended the season with an episode truly as entertaining as it should have been all along. I am sad to see Russell Edgington go, but it was awesome to see Eric shockingly rid the faerie field of him. Somehow, I just don't believe he is really gone. You never know.
Bar the birth of the Faerie Quads, the episode was thrilling. I am even pleased with Alcide finally getting his pack leadership away from JD. There were many stand out scenes. Many vamp deaths and shifter hijinx. Sam shifting into a fly and bringing us the new "I know an old vamp who swallowed a fly, perhaps she'll die." trick was literally bloody good.
Many questions remain for us to ponder for the year long wait for next season. Will Sookie and Eric survive Bill now that he has killed most of The Authority and drank all of Lilith's blood? Where is Rev. Newlin? Luna was very ill after shifting back from being Rev. Newlin. Will she and Sam succeed in rescuing Luna? TARA AND PAM?!?!?That is a power duo that should be able to get Bill neutralized. And, finally, will we ever know who killed Sookie and Jason's parents? My money is on Bill.
Questions and more questions. There wouldn't be any if the series went by the book. So, who knows where it will go from here. Some suggestions for next season: please give us a better soundtrack. It was great to end the season with Stabbing Westward's "Save Yourself". We need more of the music that defined the first 4 seasons, original and retro. And please, if this next season deals with Hurricane Katrina, don't make it cheesy. MAKE IT EPIC.

"I'm A Bitch Not A Snitch. Love It." - True Blood (S5E11)
Wasted talent. Wasted humor. LAFAYETTE ONLY HAD ONE LINE TONIGHT! I think we would all agree that less Lilith more Lafayette would be better for the show these days. At least we are still getting regular doses of Pam. Actually, I am quite fond of the vamp version of "Charlie's Angel's". Let's call the trio of Pam, Tara and Jessica "Eric's Angel's". Well, we know Jessica does not belong to Eric, but, considering that Bill is such a douchecanoe of religious tyranny at present, she should seek the company of some down home vamps.
Please GOD no more naked Lilith dripping with blood. This whole story line continues to be a rip of Anne Rice's "Queen Of The Damned". Who cares what happened in Charlaine Harris's books. Obviously, no TV series based on a book series goes completely by the book. Case in point, Pam. Not a blip on the radar in the books. Larger than life in the show.
So, why can't the writers finesse the script a bit? What else could be clipped? How about the dancing cray cray faerie last night. Most of the faerie story line just detracts from the vampires. What else should we have seen more off? Tina Majorino ( "Napoleon Dynamite"). The character of Authority gadget queen, Molly, was a nice addition to the cast. But, she bit the dust last week. What about Hoyt's mom?! Her one liners are as saucy as Pam's. Godrick's ghost is a better character than some of those stuffy Authority Vamps.
Next week is the last episode of the season. Here is a sneak peak from HBO:

True Blood (S5E10) - It Was Sookie In Gran's House With The ChopSticks
The first scene of this episode finally takes us back to the Sookie we all grew to love... flying by her wits for survival. Now that The Authority has made it impossible for Vamps to get synthetic blood, they are forced to hunt humans again. We all know that Sook is not your average human. Her Faerie blood is like taking a nice trip for the blood suckers and they will no doubt be seeking her out. At least we know Russell will.
This episode finally got the Vampire storyline back on track. Minimal werewolves and faeries. Sam and Luna are destined to be in a major seasonal tie up as they seek to rescue little Emma from a life as a pet for Vamp Rev Steve Newlin. This is THE True Blood we have all grown to love. Everyone knows these shows veer from their literary counterparts. But, we like this story to stay close to its central premise...Vampires among us.
My favorite intrigue of the evening was that of the scene in which Eric is forced to take the blood of Lilith. Immediately, he envisions Godrick coming to him in a plea not to believe this whole Lilith hype. The key word is EVOLVE. The Authority feels that they are evolving because they are taking their blood lust back to its origins...to Lilith. The others feel that evolution is that they no longer need to feed on the humans. Assimilating into human society is evolution. There is no middle ground in this civil war.
I tend to think that Eric is still strong but hiding in plain sight for survival. I expect him to rise, with the help of Godrick, to fight against Lilith. As for Bill, he too can be saved from this blood lust that is so counter to who he is. But, he is drunk with power. With both of them mixed up, who is going to come to Sookie's aid when Russell...who rebelled and broke free of The Authority last night...gets to her. It is her blood that will accomplish his quest for the sun.

True Blood - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World"
Let me say it again, LAFAYETTE IS BACK. And, loose ends are starting to be tied up. This week brought resolution to a few of the minor story lines simmering in the background. Mercifully, the scourge of the dead Iraqi woman ghost ended with Terry killing Patrick and the mystery of the shifter hate crimes was solved. They needed to clear the way for the last three episodes to be focused on what this show is known for...Vampires.
With Russell back in Bon Temp with his replacement for his long lost Talbot...Steve Newlin... we return to the days when the werewolves were controlled by the Vamps. Russell proceeds to string them out on V and take Luna's puppy daughter as Steve's new pet.
Sookie and Hoyt, kidnapped and drugged, end up held hostage on former Sheriff Dearborn's pig farm. Guess who heads the band of hillbilly terrorists picking off shifters? Amazingly, Sheriff Balfour and Jason figure out who it is and get to them just in the nick of time. Am I the only one finding their CSI work a bit too intelligent? Andy maybe could have figured it out. But, let's be real. Jason is not known for his sleuthing.
The Vampire revolution is on. Eric is trying to escape but Bill and Salome are too intent with ruling the vamps to let the naysayer go. Eric is foiled in his attempt and taken into custody. Where is Godrick when you need him! My prediction is that Bill has something more self serving up his sleeve but we will have to wait three more weeks to figure it out.
Unfortunate event of the evening: there is a new vampire Sheriff in town and all hell has broken loose in Fangtasia as he declares open drink season on humans. What will Pam do? I would like nothing more than for her to rule the world!

True Blood : "Somebody That I Used To Know"
All season long, I have been complaining about how lost the show has been. We finally "found" some favorites tonight. Lafayette is back, bitches. The sassy out and about clairvoyant diva cook that we all know and love is back serving up sass just like he used to. This and the return of Russell just may save the season for me.
We used to know that Jason Stackhouse could be counted on to deliver the sex scenes a plenty. But, I think the Alcide fan club will agree that the growling love scene tonight obliterated any memory of those days. Especially now that Jason has grown a conscience. And, by the way, isn't he supposed to be a werepanther? Whatever happened to that?
The biggest laugh of the evening went to Sam for loving himself on the couch. Well, it was Luna shifted into Sam, but the result was still hilarious. I would have gone the whole way and completed that scene with a kiss. Just saying.
The big mystery is what vampire killed Sookie's parents. She attempted to channel her mother to see who it was got her inside the mind of a vampire for the first time. Now, it's haunting her. I am laying my bet in it being Russell.

True Blood 7//22/12 - In The Begining There Was Lilith...or Akasha?
Has no one, besides me, noticed the similarities in last night's episode of True Blood and the movie/book "Queen of the Damned"? I would LOVE Anne Rice to weigh in on this. Last night, True Blood took that fork in the road where good series run out of creative options and start to mimic the standard before them. As soon as Lilith appeared in that seedy bar in the French Quarter and let her first gasp of freedom, I uttered the name...AKASHA?
In the film interpretation of "QOTD", Lestat drinks from the mighty and stone sleeping Akasha, partaking of the Ancient Bloodline of Vampires. This is the strong blood origin of the vampires of Anne Rice's series. It makes Lestat powerful and it unleashes Akasha on the world. She proceeds to attempt to get the vampire race to fall at her feet or face death. Ultimately, the vampire coven that knows better than to let her rule the world with tyranny and death, kill her. They put their blood need aside for the greater cause of living in the midst of humans. DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
The situation may be a tad different in Bon Temp, but the premise is the same. A small group of renegade fanatical Vampires worshiping their leader. The leader is a female. The whole vampire/ human balance of existence is at risk. Maharet kills Akasha in "QOTD". Who, if anyone, will rise up to take out Lilith? Will Russell be Lilith's Lestat?
All I can say is that I am a bit disappointed in how this season is going. If it were not for the hope of Russell's weekly sarcasm and antics, I am not sure I would still be rearranging my whole schedule to watch it. This season is scattered and too loose. Also lacking, the soundtrack. It is all leaving me a little MEH. We are halfway in now. Will it turn around? Or will I start watching "Falling Skies" first and waiting for the replay of "True Blood"?

King Russell of Mississippi is free and all hell is breaking loose. Shifter hate crimes and wayward wolves aside, it was about time Russell Edginton was emancipated from his cement time out and unleashed on society once again.
Clearly, treachery abounds in the vampire hierarchy and someone in The Authority didn't quite buy Roman's particular brand of peaceful coexistence. Someone used Bill and Eric to lead them to Russell and set the dominos falling for Roman and, perhaps, the rest of the world. Goodbye, Roman, and take that skin tight Nike shirt with you.
What is Lafayette up to? He was almost back to his normal self tonight with the exchange between him and his crazy Mama, who just might not be so crazy after all. I am more intrigued by that than the Fae nonsense in the neverland of the field that keeps swallowing up Jason. This time, Sookie in tow, he learned the Vampires were responsible for their parents death. Well, ok. Next.

True Blood 7/8/12 #BootNRally And Coming Up Short
The last few weeks have been a hot mess for the Teletuffy. Last week, a storm killed the electricity only 2 minutes before True Blood was to start. We didn't get to see the episode until midnight. Unlike many, I am cool with reading spoiler tweets. So, thank you to those who tweeted along.
Tonight was chaos because I already split my night between True Blood and Falling Skies. Both shows are getting very intense. Then, AMC has to throw in a Walking Dead Marathon Season Sneak Peek Weekend into the mix. CHAOS!! Luckily, I managed to watch most of the black and white pilot episode.
True Blood was thrilling and very disappointing at the same time tonight. We all have been waiting on pins and needles for the return of Russell. Finally, tonight...at the very end...he is discovered in an old insane asylum. The excitement was quickly killed by HBO cutting the episode short by 10 minutes. This is a long time to shave off in a quickly moving show. They could have tied up a loose end or two in that time.
Some one is killing off the shifters, Lafayette is struggling with his powers, there is a new curse fire monster from Iraq and Tara is turning slowly into a Pam clone one wit quip at a time. Bill and Eric are racing against the sunrise to bring Russell back to Roman and The Authority. The question lingering for next week is now that they know where he is, how are they going to get him there without everyone dying in the process.Speaking of dying, will Sam succumb to the gunshot wound he sustained tonight?
It is all up in the air. A lot going on and we could all be totally satisfied in what unfolds or left wishing those missing ten minutes could have been a turn around.
Favorite scene in tonight's episode has to be Lafayette losing it over the religious icons on his home altar. Something tells me that you are not doing yourself any favors by stomping on the Virgin Mary...even if she is talking back at you.
Tonight was chaos because I already split my night between True Blood and Falling Skies. Both shows are getting very intense. Then, AMC has to throw in a Walking Dead Marathon Season Sneak Peek Weekend into the mix. CHAOS!! Luckily, I managed to watch most of the black and white pilot episode.

"Whatever I Am, You Made Me" - True Blood (S5E3)
As we have begun to learn, Pam was as witty and powerful in 1905 as she is now. I believe that is what drew Eric to her in the first place. True, he floated around the brothel for a meal or two, but he was drawn to her. She walked a fine line between mortified and electrified by his being a vampire, but last night she took the situation at hand by pleading with Eric to make her or let her die. We all know how that turned out.
It was interesting to see newly made Bill and Lorena in the flashback sequence. If you add the new maker/progeny relationship of Pam and Tara to this mix, it gives a rich explanation of how these relationships begin, and often times falter. Lorena loses control of Bill. Eric is seeing the unraveling of his relationship with Pam in modern day. Pam, whether she wants to or not, has to deal with newly made Tara out of control.
"Whatever I am, You made me." is the vampire equivalent to "You reap what you sow." It remains to be seen how Pam and Tara will develop. I am predicting that Tara will be a pawn in Pam's game of survival. There are traitors in the Vampire midst. Everyone will be jockeying for survival. We still have not seen Russell Edgington...yet. Who are the other vampires in secret alliance with The Sanguinistas? Can we really deal with the new "Nan Flanegan" a.k.a Rev. Steve Newlin?
So many questions. A big one remains for me. When will Sookie begin to reap what SHE sows? Every one has had serious consequences for their mistakes and bad behavior except her. The last time Sookie really had to recover from a huge setback was in Season One with the death of "Gran". We all know that Russell is coming straight for her when he regenerates. And, now that she has murdered Debbie, she will have the werewolves after her too. She may not be able to count on Lafayette any longer. After all, she is responsible for having Pam turn Tara instead of letting her die. Alcide, who is usually just around the corner to defend her, is realing from the knowledge that she killed Debbie. Eric and Bill are off having their bromance and dealing with Roman. Who is protecting Sookie? Sookie may have to finally start protecting herself.
